The regulation of gene expression is a crucial process in all organisms. While the DNA sequence of cis-regulatory elements (enhancers) encodes the regulatory information needed to specify gene expression patterns, the requirements for enhancer activity remain unknown. We use bioinformatics and molecular biology to decipher gene regulatory sequences and study the proteins that cells employ to regulate gene expression.
