Dr. Monaco graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Medical School. His PhD involved isolation of the Duchenne muscular dystrophy gene. He was Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (1998-2007), Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Planning and Resources (2007-2011) at University of Oxford and President of Tufts University from 2011-2023. He currently is University Professor focused on the genetics of mental health disorders.
