My most important work was the identification of gamma-secretase, the intramembrane cleaving protease that processes Notch and Amyloid Precursor protein. Since a couple of years i have moved away from the molecular biology to focus on the complex cellular phase of Alzheimer's Disease. I want to understand how cellular changes in the brain are gradually, over more than two decades, leading to dementia. The resilience of the brain is the clue towards understanding this devastating disease.
