Glycans are slowly advancing from an enigma to scientific mainstream. Yet, understanding the intricacies of glycans as secondary gene products is challenging by methods of biology alone. Chemical tools are complementary to strategies in molecular and cell biology. My group focuses on developing and using such tools to report on the activity of individual glycosylation enzymes, glycan sub-types or cell types within complex co-culture systems.
