Our group studies the biosynthesis and production of natural products from ribosomally synthesized and posttranslationally modified peptide (RiPP) pathways. We use a combination of genomic enzymology, synthetic biology, and analytical chemistry to identify and characterize unique posttranslational modifying enzymes. The resulting peptide products mediate microbial interactions and represent next-generation therapeutics for infectious diseases.
