My group focuses on lipid transport and storage mechanisms relevant for human disease: cholesterol and sphingolipids accumulate in lysosomal lipidoses, cholesteryl esters are the storage form of excess cholesterol, and triglycerides the chemical storage form of excess energy. We study how the exchange of lipids between storage organelles, membranes and the extracellular environment is controlled in normal and diseased states.
