My group studies how plants grow and develop, with special emphasis on the stem cells found in the shoot apical meristem, and their genetic control. We have found a number of mechanisms by which these cells communicate with each other to maintain the stem cell population, and to create new shoots and flowers. These mechanisms involve not only chemical, but also physical (mechanical) signaling.
