My lab studies the molecular mechanisms of bacterial infection and host anti-bacteria innate immunity. On the host side, we focus on how bacterial pathogens are detected by the innate immune system in the cytosol and have identified cytosolic receptors for bacterial LPS and flagellin. We are also interested in bacterial suppression of host defenses and have discovered several novel posttranslational modifications catalyzed by bacterial effectors.
