We study the mechanisms underlying spatial coding and neuronal plasticity in the hippocampal-entorhinal cortex. A major focus lies on the contribution of distinct GABAergic interneurons in governing the activity of principal neurons. We take recourse to mouse genetics combined with electrophysiological and behavioural studies. Furthermore, we investigate postnatal neurogenesis and mechanisms by which this form of plasticity can be modulated.
