Our main goal is to understand the mammalian germline and what distinguishes it from the soma. In order to achieve this, we try to decipher the genetic programs that define totipotency, pluripotency and multipotency, and how these distinct levels of potency can be created both in vivo and in vitro. For example, we study how factors such as Oct4 and Brn4 are involved in the re-establishment of stem cells from the differentiated, somatic cell state.
