My lab focuses on constructing new-to-nature metabolic pathways for C1 metabolism using genetic and evolutionary engineering. Specifically, we are developing synthetic methylotrophic E. coli that can grow with methanol or methane as sole carbon source, and investigating ways to increase CO2 fixation by plants and cyanobacteria. We are also exploring novel laboratory evolution events that can be used for engineering microorganisms.
