Plants are able to establish root endosymbioses with soil microorganisms. These symbioses play a key role in diverse ecosystems and agriculture. Legumes (Fabaceae) can form nodules in which they house nitrogen-fixing bacteria and most terrestrial plants are able to form associations with mycorrhizal fungi. I am interested in the signalling mechanisms that control the recognition of symbiotic partners and early steps of symbiotic infection.
