We are interested in how a cell's genetic material is packaged into chromatin, and how the encoded information is accessed. We also study the evolutionary origins of the nucleosome by investigating chromatin outside the eukaryotic domain of life. We use a wide variety of structural and biophysical approaches, such as cryoEM and x-ray crystallography, coupled with in-cell assays.
