We investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating neural differentiation in vertebrate embryos and embryonic stem cells. Our work has uncovered a signalling switch that controls differentiation onset in the body axis and addresses how such signals direct chromatin organisation. Using live tissue imaging, we also elucidate cell biological mechanisms that regulate neurogenesis.
