My lab focuses on zebrafish as a model for blood diseases and cancer. We use genetic screens to find mutants with defective blood development and discovered five new human diseases as a result. We use chemical genetics to find small molecules that accelerate blood stem cell development or engraftment. Several compounds are being tested in humans. We have developed several cancer models in the zebrafish including transgenic and gene targeted fish.
