Within the single layer of epithelial cells lining the gut are an enigmatic group of unconventional T cells called intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL). Our lab aims to understand how IEL communicate with epithelial and other immune cells — to protect against infection, aid in the dietary regulation of the gut, and maintain tolerance. We are also exploring the Crohn's disease-associated kinase LRRK2 in intestinal immune function and inflammatory bowel diseases.
