A developmental molecular biologist with expertise in gene expression, functional genomics and gene regulatory network (GRN) analyses, I study evolution of organs and body parts by comparing the GRNs that control the formation of such parts in different animals. Using the sea urchin embryo as main model system and various integrated 'omics' approaches, my lab is currently focusing on the evolution of pancreatic cell types in deuterostomes.
