Evolution and chemical ecology of insect symbioses

My group is interested in the evolution and chemical ecology as well as the molecular basis of insect-bacteria symbioses. Across different symbiotic systems and exploiting the naturally occurring gradient of host-symbiont specificity and integration, our research aims at connecting the chemical and molecular basis of host-symbiont interactions to their ecological relevance and evolutionary history.

Keywords: Symbiosis / co-evolution / host-microbe molecular dialogue / immune system / insects / bacteria / genome erosion
