My group studies how protein systems self-organize into complex patterns in space and time. For this aim, we rebuild cellular processes from purified components in vitro, instead of looking at these complex phenomena in an intact cell. Our research focusses on the mechanism of bacterial cell division and small GTPase signaling, for which we combine biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis.
