Protein homeostasis and aging

Long-lived cells such as neurons fail to work properly as they age. Our group studies how cell maintenance and repair mechanisms function in non-dividing cells during adulthood and disease development, with implications in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. Our goal is to delay age-related decline by investigating how long-lived proteins (LLPs) exhibit little to no turnover in the brain and other organs with limited cell renewal.

Keywords: Long-lived proteins / nuclear pore complex / micronuclei / aging / age mosaicism

Subject area(s): Proteins & Biochemistry | Membranes & Transport | Development | Chromatin & Transcription
