How energy flow shapes life's origin and evolution

I am interested in how membrane bioenergetics shaped metabolism and genetics across evolution, from the origin of life in hydrothermal systems to the role of mitochondria in eukaryotic complexity and the evolution of traits such as sex, senescence and consciousness. My lab combines experimental work on life's origins and mitochondrial metabolism with mathematical modelling of the origins of heredity, multilevel selection and the evolution of sex.
