We develop theoretical models, based on statistical physics, to describe the shape dynamics of cells, with a focus on cell migration (both as individual cells and in collectives). The models we develop are simple enough to allow for efficient calculation and provide deep insight, while at the same time rich enough to describe a wide range of biological phenomena. We compare to experimental data to validate and further motivate new models.
