We study how viruses manipulate the host immune system using unbiased genetic and proteomic approaches to uncover novel virus-host interactions. Our discovery of the 'Human Silencing Hub' (HUSH) complex, a novel epigenetic repressor complex that assembles repressive H3K9me3 heterochromatin, explains how the host silences integrated retroviruses and retrotransposons and protects the genome from the reverse flow of genetic information.
