My laboratory worked out the basic mechanism of DNA nucleotide excision repair and reconstituted the process of with purified proteins. A major object of our current research is the action of DNA polymerases that act in DNA repair or damage tolerance. These include REV3L (pol zeta), which protects against DNA replication blocking agents and POLQ (pol theta), which is needed for a pathway of end-joining for DNA double-strand breaks.
