We work on the early evolution of eukaryotes and on the evolution and functions of eukaryotic organelles related to mitochondria, namely mitosomes and hydrogenosomes, that are found in parasitic protists. We are also using sophisticated methods of phylogenetic analysis to understand eukaryotic gene and genomic origins and to understand the relationships between the major groups of cellular life.
