Our lab studies the evolutionary processes behind microbial adaptation with a special focus on host-microbe interactions. We study a broad array of topics and microorganisms from all domains of life and explore the evolutionary contributions of selfish DNA and horizontal gene transfer to genetic functional diversity. We also explore the roles of of the human microbiome in inflammatory bowel disease.
